Minister Of Agriculture Amran Prepares 10 Thousand Soybean Seeds To Increase National Production

JAKARTA - Minister of Agriculture (Mentan) Andi Amran Sulaiman has prepared 10 thousand superior soybean seeds to increase national production of these commodities in order to support food security and domestic industrial needs.

"We started testing this year, if we succeed, we will continue. We asked yesterday, not to try it, 10 thousand (bits), but to be escorted," said Minister of Agriculture Amran, when met on the sidelines of the National Coordination Meeting with 37 thousand Agricultural Extensioners online and offline in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Sunday, April 27.

The Minister of Agriculture conveyed this when confirmed about the news about tempe entrepreneurs getting around the impact of the increase in imported soybean prices from the United States (US) by reducing the size of tempeh.

Responding to this, the Minister of Agriculture admitted that he would increase domestic soybean production by using 10 thousand superior seeds.

The Minister of Agriculture said the program was not just a trial, but had to produce high productivity, reaching at least three tons per hectare to ensure the success of the national scale.

Amran stressed that the project will be closely monitored with a new system from the Bogor Agricultural Institute (IPB) and the use of superior seeds to accelerate the increase in national soybean commodity production.

According to him, this step is a solution to the needs of tempe entrepreneurs, which in recent times has reduced the size due to the fairly expensive raw materials.

Amran admitted that in his first 100 days as Minister of Agriculture, he first focused on dealing with the corn and rice crisis, but is now preparing to seriously accelerate soybean development and other strategic commodities such as wheat.

He hopes that the soybean development program will become a mass movement if the harvest from the 10 thousand seeds shows success, so that the dependence of soybean imports can be reduced gradually.

Amran added that the order of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, was clear, namely accelerating national food production, including soybeans and wheat, through concrete steps and a product-based modern agricultural system.

Although the location for the development of 10 thousand soybean seeds has not been detailed, the Minister of Agriculture ensures that all programs will be carried out with strict supervision to ensure that the production target is achieved optimally.

"I said it's not 10 thousand (soybean seeds) trials. And it must be produced, not below three tons per hectare. If that's okay, we'll make it a mass movement," added the Minister of Agriculture.

Meanwhile, based on data from the National Food Agency Price Panel as reported in Jakarta, early Sunday at 02.49 WIB, the average price of imported dried soybeans nationally at the consumer level reached IDR 10,773 per kilogram as of April 26, 2026.

This figure is not much different from the price on the previous day or on April 25, it was recorded at IDR 10,766 per kg.
