Three Policemen Smuggling Drugs Into Detention Rooms In Samarinda Threatened With Fire

BALIKPAPAN - Three personnel from the Samarinda City Police (Polresta), East Kalimantan, who were involved in the alleged drug smuggling case into the detention room are threatened with being sentenced to dishonorable dismissal (PTDH) or dismissal.

"Currently, the three individuals are undergoing intensive examination by the East Kalimantan Police Professional and Security Division (Propam)," said East Kalimantan Regional Police Chief Inspector General Endar Priantoro as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, April 26.

Currently, he said, the ethics and discipline trial process against the three Samarinda Police personnel is ongoing.

PTDH is one of the options for severe sanctions considered for the three Polri personnel.

"There is no place for members of the National Police to abuse their trust and tarnish the good name of the institution," he said.

The East Kalimantan Regional Police are evaluating standard operating procedures (SOP) for guarding prisoners in all ranks in order to tighten internal supervision.

Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations of the East Kalimantan Police, Police Commissioner Yuliyanto, explained that the violation occurred because the three Samarinda Police personnel did not carry out the SOP for examining luggage into the detention room, especially food.

"Every item should be examined in detail. This negligence causes drugs to be successfully smuggled," said Yuliyanto.

The disclosure of the drug smuggling case in the detention room began with the arrest of three Samarinda Police personnel on Monday, April 8, 2025, after it was discovered that they had received a bribe of Rp. 1 million to pass the methamphetamine without an examination.

Luckily, other guard officers found suspicious items during the follow-up examination, so seven packages of crystal methamphetamine were successfully secured before reaching detention.

Currently, the three police personnel are being placed in special detention (patsus) while waiting for the legal process and the code of ethics.

Yuliyanto ensured that the examination of Polri personnel was carried out in a professional and transparent manner.

"All stages of examination are open. We want the public to be sure that this case is handled firmly and fairly," he said.

He emphasized the importance of personnel integrity in carrying out police duties, in addition to compliance with SOPs.

"Good SOPs must be supported by individual integrity. This is what we continue to strengthen," he said.

The East Kalimantan Regional Police also invited the active participation of the community in monitoring and reporting potential irregularities.

"We are trying to resolve the ethics trial so that the sanctions decision can be determined quickly and appropriately," he concluded.
