Several Electronic Payment Systems In Ukraine Experiencing Disruption

JAKARTA Several electronic payment systems at the postal, restaurant, and metro systems were reportedly paralyzed in Ukraine on Saturday morning 26 April.

Although Ukraine had previously been the target of cyberattacks from Russia, until now there has been no immediate indication that this disruption was caused by acts of hostility.

Authorities in Kyiv City revealed that the disruption to the payment system in metro transportation was caused by technical problems that occurred in the system management bank.

At a McDonald's restaurant in the Kyiv center, staff told customers that the electronics payment terminal is not working and can only accept cash payments.

Meanwhile, a member of the Ukrainian Parliament's National Security Committee, Oleksandr Fediyenko, uploaded a video on his personal Telegram account showing himself at a post office and was told that the payments system across the country was not working.

"This is not a cyber attack, this is a technical problem," wrote Fediyenko.

Reuters journalists also reported that several commercial banking apps were inaccessible, and the Diya app that provides online access to Ukrainians for government services also experienced disruptions.

This situation is taking place in the midst of state conditions that are still alert to potential cyber threats, especially in the midst of ongoing tensions with Russia.
