The Ministry Of Cooperatives Inaugurates The Establishment Of A Red And White Village Cooperative In Malang

The Ministry of Cooperatives (Kemenkop) inaugurated the establishment of the Red and White Villages/Kel Village Cooperative (Kopdes/Kel) in Malang Regency, East Java (Jatim). Malang has the highest number of Kopdes/Kel Merah Putih in 378 existing villages. Of the total villages, 220 Kopdes/Kel Merah Putih have been formed.

Deputy Minister of Cooperatives (Wamenkop) Ferry Juliantono said the inauguration was a concrete step in supporting President Prabowo Subianto's program and the Red and White Cabinet Government to advance economic resources in villages.

"The program for the formation of Kopdes/Kel Merah Putih not only aims to increase economic growth in villages, but also has an impact on national economic growth as a whole," he said in a written statement quoted on Saturday, April 26.

Ferry said that the Kopdes/Kel Merah Putih is expected to have main activities. This includes the establishment of cooperative offices, savings and loan activities to reduce dependence on online loans, opening of pharmacies and village clinics for public health services as well as opening stalls or shops for daily needs. Warehouses equipped with facilities such as cold storage and drying will also be an important part of village cooperatives.

In addition, trucks will be provided to support the mobility of goods, especially in strict activities in the region.

"Despite the main activities, village cooperatives are also given the freedom to develop activities in accordance with the potential of their respective villages," he explained.

He said the process of forming village cooperatives was carried out through village deliberations with the support of the cooperative service.

"Hopefully, all villages in Malang Regency will have their respective village cooperatives in May," said Ferry.

Ferry said this task is not an easy task. However, through Presidential Instruction (Inpres) Number 9 of 2025 emphasized the involvement of various agencies and local governments to accelerate the formation of village cooperatives throughout Indonesia.

"So there are 13 Ministries/Institutions (K/L) involved to work together. There are 3 Non-Deepartment Government Institutions or Entities involved," he said.
