Real Madrid Boycotts Official Agenda Ahead Of The Copa Del Rey Final As A Form Of Protest

JAKARTA - Ahead of the Copa del Rey final match against Barcelona on Sunday morning, Real Madrid took a firm stance by not attending a press conference and canceling a training session at La Cartuja Stadium, Sevilla. This action is a form of protest against the Spanish football federation, according to reports from various sources, Saturday.

Real Madrid previously asked the Spanish football federation RFEF to replace referee Ricardo de Burgoes Bengoetxea from referee VAR Gonzalez Fuertes for the final of the King Cup, but the request was rejected.

As a form of protest, Real Madrid did not attend a press conference and canceled training sessions, even club president Florentino Perez and high-ranking officials did not attend a dinner held by the RFEF.

In its official statement, Real Madrid assessed that the appointment of a VAR referee and referee by RFEF to serve in the final match of the Spanish King Cup was unacceptable.

Real Madrid also highlighted Bengoetxea and Fuertes' remarks at a pre-match press conference session that they thought was very inappropriate to convey to many people.

"An even more surprising statement, in a threatening tone, alluding to the union of the referees, was used to announce alleged actions or actions far from the principles of justice, objectivity, and imparity that should have been valid just hours before a football event that caught the attention of hundreds of millions of people around the world," the club said in a statement.

"Given the seriousness of what happened, Real Madrid hopes that those responsible for the RFEF and the referee's body will act properly, adopting the necessary actions to maintain the prestige of the institution they represent," the official statement concluded.
