Badanas Calls Farmer Welfare Able To Accelerate RI's Food Security

JAKARTA - The National Food Agency (Bapanas) stated that the realization of welfare for farmers is considered capable of accelerating food security in Indonesia.

Head of Badanas Arief Prasetyo Adi said that for welfare for farmers to be realized, it is necessary to play a role from relevant stakeholders, such as the central government, regional governments, to state-owned enterprises (BUMN) in the food sector.

"We have all agreed that talking about the welfare of farmers is number one," said Arief as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, April 25.

He explained, when talking about the welfare of farmers, there are two important things that can be done, namely formulating steps to improve the quality of land to restore nutrients in each farm.

Then, the second is to improve the quality of plant seeds provided for farmers.

"Tream seeds must be good, not seeds that have been used for a long time. That is so that the current condition can be resistant to the weather so that their productivity is high," he said.

According to him, the ultimate goal of that step is to increase productivity of products from the domestic agricultural sector.

"Then also fertilizer and water, these are all one unit package for farmers," he said.

Arief stated that when the harvest is abundant, it will have an impact on the community's convenience in getting food supplies.

"What kind of food sovereignty do people want to eat, everything is available. Then, there is food independence, as is currently domestic production for the benefit of the nation," he said.

He said the creation of food security in Indonesia must be based on the formation of food independence and sovereignty.

"All of that can be achieved when farmers are prosperous," he said.

So, President Prabowo Subianto, he said, always emphasized that the welfare of farmers is one of the main points that is sought to achieve as much as possible.

"Currently, almost no farmer complains, Pak Prabowo has prepared everything," he said.
