Demand For IPhone 16e Is Stronger Than IPhone SE 3 At Launch
Apple recorded a significant initial success with the launch of the iPhone 16e, which surpassed the 3rd generation iPhone SE sales performance in its launch period in 2022.
Data from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP) shows that the iPhone 16e contributed 7% of total iPhone sales in the US in the first quarter of 2025.
The 16e model strengthens Apple's position in the middle-class mobile market, which is usually controlled by Android manufacturers. Overall, the five iPhone 16 variants accounted for 74% of iPhone sales in the US, up from 68% for the iPhone 15 series in the same quarter the previous year.
One of the main impacts of the presence of the iPhone 16e is the decline in sales of older iPhone models (more than one year) to 26%, compared to 32% in 2024. older iPhone SE relies on classic designs with Home buttons and small screens, but 16e comes with a modern design and a 6.1-inch OLED screen, giving a premium impression in the affordable price segment.
Although it doesn't have features like Dynamic Island, MagSafe, and ultra-wide cameras, the iPhone 16e is still attractive with the A18 chip and the same shape as the regular iPhone 16. Wireless charging performance is also slower, but it remains competitive.

iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max are down from 45% to 38%, showing increased interest in mid-range and entry-level models.
This shows that Apple has succeeded in attracting users who previously preferred a discount or older model model, to new options that are more modern but still affordable.
It is not yet known whether Apple will release the iPhone e every year, such as the regular model cycle, or follow a slow schedule like the iPhone SE. However, if the iPhone 17e comes in 2026, it is likely that the iPhone 16e will still be marketed at a lower price.
The initial success of the iPhone 16e shows Apple's smart steps in filling the mid-range market gap, as well as streamlining their product lines with consistent technology at all price levels.
