Google Cancels Third Party Cookie Support In Chrome
JAKARTA Google changed its plans regarding the data cookies storage device in Chrome. Initially, the company wanted to remove third-party cookies support, but this plan was no longer continued.
This was conveyed by Vice President Privacy Sandbox Anthony Chavez on April 22. In his official blog, Chavez said that they would maintain the use of third-party cookies to store user data on Chrome.
"We have made the decision to maintain our current approach," Chavez said. "(we) will not launch new independent demand for third-party cookies. Users can continue to choose the best options for themselves in Privacy and Security Settings."
Plans to remove third-party cookies are part of the Privacy Sandbox initiative Google announced in 2020. Through this initiative, Google has created new features to replace cookies, for example Topics API to find out user preferences.

Google also promises other tools that can target ads without disrupting user privacy, but all these initiatives have no progress. All these alternative features have been delayed and under ongoing surveillance for years.
Therefore, Google decides to give its users freedom of privacy. All Chrome users can choose whether they want to run Chrome with or without cookies.
"As we engage with the ecosystem, including publishers, developers, regulators, and advertising industry, it remains clear that there is a different perspective in making changes that could affect the availability of third-party cookies," Chevaz explained.
