French Media Company Sues Meta For Illegal Business Practices

JAKARTA A number of major French media companies, including TF1, France TV, and BFM TV, filed a lawsuit against Facebook owner Meta Platform Inc., on charges of illegal business practices. This was dismissed by law firms representing them.

The lawsuit was filed on Wednesday, April 23, at the Paris Business Court by a group of 67 media companies representing about 200 publications. This is part of a series of legal action against Meta in Europe.

The media group alleges that Meta dominance in the digital advertising sector is obtained through illegal practices, particularly collection.

Earlier, in February, digital rights groups had also filed complaints in Europe over Meta advertising practices. In addition, on Wednesday, EU antitrust regulators imposed fines on Meta and Apple over alleged violations of EU competition law.

The lawsuit from a French media firm is backed by international law firm Scott+Scott and local law firm Darrois Villey Maillot Brochier.

Apart from television companies, several other well-known media involved in this lawsuit include: Le total, Lagardere, LExpress, La Dépmenche, Libration, Radio France, and Center France.
