Pisau, Luka Lama, Dan Callan Keadilan: DPR Minta Negara Hadir

Member of Commission XIII of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Elpisina, urged the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) to re-investigate allegations of exploitation experienced by former ORiental Circuit Indonesia (OCI) actress Taman Safari. He also called for the Government's involvement to thoroughly investigate the alleged violation of human rights (HAM).

"A complaint to Komnas HAM indicates allegations of exploitation leading to human rights violations. Komnas HAM must re-investigate to reveal the real facts regarding the alleged exploitation of former circus players," said Elpisina, Wednesday, April 23.

"The government must also be actively involved in this thorough investigation as evidence of the state's presence in ensuring human rights," he continued.

The PKB legislator from the Jambi electoral district emphasized the importance of the state's presence in guaranteeing protection for the fulfillment of human rights. Elpisina asked the government to carry out investigations independently, transparently, and without intervention from any party in order to uphold justice.

"The involvement of the state is crucial to confirm that every individual has the right to human rights without exception. Recovery of rights that are violated and protection of former circus players must be realized immediately," he said.

Elpisina emphasized that the state also has a responsibility to provide comprehensive assistance to circus players who are suspected of being victims of human rights violations.

Komnas HAM has previously admitted to receiving complaints related to this alleged exploitation three times, namely in 1997, 2004, and 2024. In 1997, Komnas HAM has issued investigative results that found allegations of human rights violations, including violations of children's rights to know their origins, identities, family relations, and parents.

In addition, violations of children's rights are also found to be free from economic exploitation and obtain proper public education to ensure their future. As well as violations of children's rights to obtain proper security and social security in accordance with applicable legal provisions.

If the cases experienced by these SCI players continue to drag on and are deadlocked, then this problem will never be resolved and the fulfillment of human rights will be neglected. In fact, fulfilling human rights is an obligation that must be guaranteed by the state," said Elpisina.

As is known, this case re-emerged after eight former circus representatives came to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights office on Tuesday, April 15, and had a dialogue with the Deputy Minister of Human Rights, Mugiyanto.

During the meeting, the victims admitted to experiencing various forms of terrible violence, such as beatings, spectrum, coercion to work in a sick condition, forced separation from children after giving birth, and being forced to eat animal waste.
