Commemorating Earth Day, Prudential Indonesia Plants 5,000 Mangroves On The Hope Island Of The Thousand Islands

JAKARTA - In commemoration of Earth Day 2025, PT Prudential Life Assurance (Prudential Indonesia) reinforces its commitment to supporting sustainability, especially to the environment through planting 5,000 mangrove seeds on Harapan Island, Thousand Islands, Jakarta.
This real action is part of the company's sustainability strategy based on three main pillars: Inclusive and Affordable Health and Financial Protection, Responsible Investment, and Sustainable Business.
The mangrove planting was carried out by PRUVolunteers, namely volunteers consisting of Prudential Indonesia employees and marketers and attended directly by Karin Zulkarnaen, Prudential Indonesia's Chief Customer and Marketing Officer. This activity is also a continuation of the 2025 Virtual PRUActive program, which encourages people to live an active, healthy lifestyle and contribute positively to environmental sustainability.
In this program Prudential Indonesia contributes in the form of planting one mangrove tree for each participant who successfully completed the PRUActive Virtual challenge which was held in early 2025.
Karin Zulkarnaen, Chief Customer and Marketing Officer of Prudential Indonesia, said that the principle of sustainability is part of business activities, but is also carried out through real programs and can create a positive impact on the environment and society.
"Therefore, we hope that the thousands of mangrove trees that we planted can help reduce carbon emissions and keep coastal ecosystems sustainable, as well as provide economic benefits to the surrounding community. We have carried out this effort consistently from year to year, where Prudential Indonesia has planted 20,000 mangrove trees since 2022," Karin said, in her statement, Tuesday, April 22.
Not only stopping at mangrove planting, Prudential Indonesia also scored various achievements in supporting environmental conservation efforts and has taken concrete steps in preserving the environment and reducing carbon emissions, including:
- Reduce energy consumption, which consists of electricity and fuel, totaling 326 Gigajoule- Reducing carbon emissions from business trips of 282 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent from the previous year - Recycling the company's waste by 14 tons- Saving 21 percent from the previous year
Prudential Indonesia consistently participates in Earth Hour's global campaign every year by turning off the lights for 60 minutes. In addition, in 2024, Prudential Indonesia has replaced electricity-related emissions through 2,323 Renewable Energy Certification Units (REC), replacing market-based Scope 2 emissions of 1,820 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent and replacing gasoline-fueled operational vehicles into electric or hybrid vehicles, and potentially reducing emissions to 1.98 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent.
Throughout 2024, Prudential Indonesia won the ESG Utama Financial and Investment Sector award in 2024 through the Prudential Maju Village initiative, which is a manifestation of the company's commitment to the social aspect through empowering the village community.
In terms of corporate governance and compliance which is the foundation of the sustainability business, in the same year Prudential received appreciation from the KPK for its contribution to preventing corruption through reporting the State Administrators Wealth Report (LHKPN) via the Electronic Data Exchange (PEDAL) application, and successfully maintaining the ISO 37001:2016 Certification of the Anti-Bribery Management System, making it the first joint venture life insurance company in Indonesia to achieve this certification since 2023.
In addition, the company continues to encourage gender equality with 55 percent of female employees, reflecting a commitment to inclusion in the workplace. At the leadership level, two Prudential Indonesia female directors also received recognition on the list of 500 Most Outstanding Women 2025 in the financial sector. This achievement confirms that women's empowerment is an important part of the company's sustainability strategy.
We realize that preserving the environment is a shared responsibility. Therefore, we will continue to invite the public to create positive changes to the environment. On this Earth Day, we continue to be committed to integrating sustainable values in every aspect of the company's business to be in line with our commitment to become trusted partners and protectors for current and future generations," Karin concluded.
