IDX Reveals Carbon Exchange Transaction Value Reaches IDR 77.91 Billion

JAKARTA - PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDI) reported that the value of carbon trading transactions on the Indonesia Carbon Exchange (IDX Carbon) reached IDR 77.91 billion with a total volume of carbon trading transactions reaching 1,598,703 tCO2e since its launch on September 26, 2023 to April 17, 2025.

"The transaction volume almost reached 1.6 million tons of equivalent CO2 with a transaction value of almost Rp80 billion," said President Director of PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX), Iman Rachman at the CarboNEX 2025 event, Tuesday, April 22.

Iman added that the total number of users of carbon exchange services increased by 587 percent, to 111 users on April 17, 2025 compared to September 2023 as many as 16 users.

Meanwhile, the number of retirement activities on carbon exchanges also increased from 6,290 tons to 979,834 tC02e.

Iman emphasized that the number of transactions in the Indonesian carbon market is superior when compared to Asian exchanges, such as Malaysia and Japan.

"In Malaysia, it turns out that the volume of carbon exchange transactions in Indonesia is almost seven times. When compared to the carbon exchange in Japan, our transactions are twice higher," he said.

"Indonesia's carbon depletion is quite interesting so we have, even received requests from project owners outside Indonesia who want to register and explain their carbon credit at IDX Carbon. However, our focus now is to open the trade of Indonesian carbon units to international audiences as wide as possible," he added.

It is known, there were 7 projects recorded as ready to be traded, namely 3,178,756 tCO2e.

As for now, these projects are the Lahendong Unit 5 Project & unit 6 PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk, the Construction of a New Power Plant Fueled by PLTGU Block 3 PLN, the Operation of the Mini Hydro Water Power Plant of Mount Wugul.

Then there is the operation of the New Natural Gas Fuel Plant PLTGU Priok Block 4, Conversion from the Single Cycle Generation to the Combined Cycle PLTGU Grati Blok 2, Convertion from Single Cycle Generation to Combined Cycle Block 2 PLN NP Muara Tawar, and Construction of a New Power Plant Fueled by Natural Gas PLTMG Sumbagut 2 Peaker 250 Mw.

"But our focus at this time is to open Indonesia's carbon credit trade to the international audience as wide as possible. Next, how do we see the era of new international trade," he said.

On the same occasion, Deputy Chairperson of the MPR Eddy Soeparno said that CarboNEX was not only a meeting place for business actors in the carbon exchange sector but a strategic event to accelerate political action.
