Support Food Self-Sufficiency, Waskita's Garapan Modern Grain Processing Project Has Operated To Produce More Quality Rice

JAKARTA - PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Tbk is committed to supporting various government programs, including Food Self-Sufficiency which is currently being focused. One of them is by completing the Modern Rice Milling Plant (MRMP) project.

Waskita Karya Corporate Secretary Ermy Puspa Yunita explained, MRMP is a rice processing facility based on modern technology. This facility, he continued, consists of a dryer that functions to dry grain with a capacity of 120 tons per day, Rice Milling Unit (RMU) as a rice conversion machine to rice with a capacity of six tons per hour, and three units of silo to store dry unhulled rice, with a capacity of up to 6,000 tons.

"Waskita has won the trust of Perum Bulog (General Logistics Agency) to build three of the planned 13 MRMP units. The three MRMP projects in the Subang Jawa Barat, Kendal, and Sragen rice center areas have been completed in 2022, and are now operating," he said in an official statement, Tuesday, April 22.

The completion of the construction of the project worth Rp230.98 billion, he continued, made the flow of the grain processing process simpler. The presence of MRMP is also expected to be able to absorb the production of grain from farmers.

"The rice produced becomes more quality but can still be sold at low prices because it is produced by itself. This step not only encourages food security programs that are the government's priority, but also improves the welfare of farmers," said Ermy.

MRMP, he continued, also aims to facilitate Perum Bulog in carrying out government assignments. Among them are anticipating rice needs during a disaster emergency.

As a construction BUMN with experience for more than 64 years building infrastructure, Ermy emphasized that Waskita Karya's support for the government's self-sufficiency target was also realized through the construction of dams and irrigation canals.

Previously, the government set 77 National Strategic Projects (PSN) included in the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Draft (RPJMN). The determination is contained in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) Number 12 of 2025 concerning the National Medium-Term Development Plan for 2025-2029.

A total of 16 PSN of them are dam projects. Of these projects, Waskita Karya is currently working on six PSNs, namely the Jragung Dam, Bener, Mbay, Tiga Dihaji, Karangongko, and Cibeet. Meanwhile, over the past year, four dams by the Company have been inaugurated including the Karian Dam, Margatiga, Leuwikeris, and Temef.

Next, several irrigation channels built by the Company include the Irrigation Network of the Package 2 Sheets in South Sumatra and the Citarum River in West Java. There is also the Irrigation of the Mrican Peterong and the Irrigation Tunnel of the Rukoh Dam in Aceh.
