Cardinal Suharyo Says Conclave Will Be Held 15 Days After Pope Francis Dies

JAKARTA - Archbishop of Jakarta Cardinal Ignatius Suharyo said Pope Francis will be buried in the next nine days. As for the selection of new whales or conclave, it will be held on the 15th day.

"So nine days from today there will be a funeral. Meanwhile, the selection of the new whale must be held 15 days after the whale dies," said Cardinal Suharyo at Graha Pemuda Cathedral Church, Jakarta, Monday, April 21.

Suharyo said the length of the conclave process would usually depend on conditions at the Vatican when the Cardinal's Council held a closed meeting. However, he himself has never participated in such activities.

"I've never participated in the conclave, later I will see what I have to do. Only like this, the one who joins the conclave is the cardinal who is under 80 years old," he explained.

"Yang sudah lebih dari 80 tahun tidak ikut koklaf," sambung Suharyo.

Cardinal Suharyo said the cardinals who took part in the conclave process had the right to be elected and voted like general elections (elections).

However, in its implementation there will be no campaign but it will still be colored by lobbying and discussions.

"As far as I can hear, each of them will be given the opportunity to talk about the future of what kind of Catholic church will be built together and will be led by the elected pope," he said.

"So the whale to be elected will have an idea of what kind of church will be expected to grow with that new leadership. There is no struggle for power, no bribes there, for sure. We believe, Catholics believe that this is all under the guidance of the holy spirit," concluded Cardinal Suharyo.
