Ministry Of Trade: Not All Indonesian Exports Get Trump Tariffs 47 Percent
JAKARTA - The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) emphasizes that not all Indonesian exports will be subject to the tariff policy of the President of the United States (US) Donald Trump of 47 percent.
"Not all of them got 47 percent. Because the tariffs in the US vary, from 0 to a few percent," said Director General (Dirjen) of International Trade Negotiations of the Ministry of Trade, Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono in a virtual press conference, Monday, April 21.
Djatmiko also revealed a simulation of the impact of the new tariff policy imposed by the US on Indonesian export products. For example, he said, new tariffs on textile and or finished clothing commodities.
Furthermore, Djatmiko said the tariffs imposed by the US on textiles and clothing products from Indonesia vary, ranging from 5 percent to 20 percent. However, recently the US government revised it by increasing the basic tariff by 10 percent.
"So the rate of tariffs is various for one sector, for example for textiles and clothing, it will be added to 10 percent, so that later the new range will be 15 percent to 30 percent," he continued.
Meanwhile, continued Djatmiko, the original footwear for the tariff imposed was 8 percent to 20 percent. With the increase in the new tariff, the tariff paid by the Indonesian government for footwear imports is around 18 percent to 30 percent.
Therefore, Djatmiko also requested that the amount of the tariff imposed by the US be delivered properly, so that the public could get accurate information.

"Please smooth it, so 47 percent wrote earlier, not 47 percent. Because the truth is for example textiles of 15 percent to 30 percent. We have to be right to convey information to the public," he said.
Djatmiko said that when compared to the import rate for textile products borne by a number of neighboring countries, the amount of import duties borne by the Indonesian government was much smaller. One of them, Thailand.
"Thailand is subject to 10 percent to 30 percent (initial tariff), plus 10 percent (new tariff). So the range is between 20 percent to 40 percent," he said.
