JAKARTA - The Indonesian Carbon Exchange or IDX Carbon reported that the volume of carbon trading transactions on IDX Carbon reached 690,675 tons of CO2e (tone equivalent) of carbon units during the first quarter of 2025.

This achievement exceeds the total volume of carbon trading transactions throughout 2024 and throughout 2023, making it one of the largest carbon exchanges in the region.

"This status generally provides optimism on the prospects for carbon trading in Indonesia," said IDX Corporate Secretary Kautsar Primadi Nurahmad in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Monday, April 21.

During 2024, IDX Carbon recorded transactions of 413,764 tCO2e, while during 2023 it recorded transactions of 494,254 tCO2e since operating on September 26, 2023.

IDX Carbon in coordination with OJK and related Ministries/Institutions (K/L), continues to develop a carbon trading ecosystem to make Indonesia a carbon trading center in Asia and globally.

IDX Carbon will continue to strive to encourage carbon market liquidity in terms of demand and supply, both from domestic and international markets, and in accordance with government policies and regulations.

"By collaborating with various stakeholders, carbon trade in Indonesia will continue to grow and contribute significantly in supporting the achievement of national emission reduction targets," said Kautsar.

To date, there have been seven technology-based emission reduction projects traded, with a total of 2,203,119 tCO2e available to be traded.

There was also an increase in IDX Carbon Service Users by 22 percent to 111 Users during the first quarter of 2025.
