JAKARTA The original diploma of the 7th Presidential University of the Republic of Indonesia (RI), Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has resurfaced after the masses who are members of the Ulama Defenders and Activist Team (TPUA) commanded by Amien Rais together with former Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) Roy Suryo and Dr. Tifauzia (Tifa) visited Gadjah Mada University (UGM), Yogyakarta, on Tuesday, April 15, 2025.

This UGM campus became Jokowi's laboratory in studying at the university level. UGM also received the arrival of the masses. However, Roy Suryo revealed, the meeting took place quite briefly and there was a fierce debate because the ranks of high-ranking officials in UGM were reluctant to show the thesis made by Jokowi.

Then, regarding diplomas, the campus reasoned that it did not keep the requested documents because the original diplomas were only owned by students who had graduated, including Jokowi. Meanwhile, the campus only stores photocopies of the diploma.

"But I said that I made the Law on Information Disclosure. So, the 2008 Law allowed everyone to see other people's thesis. With that consideration, they finally showed a thesis," he said.

Not getting the desired results, this crowd moved back the next day to Jokowi's residence in Solo, Central Java, Wednesday, April 16. Jokowi received the TPUA crowd. Even though they have met, the former governor of DKI does not want to show his diploma.

"He asked me to show him the original diploma. I said that there was no obligation from me to show them," he said, quoted by Antara.

He emphasized that the TPUA was not authorized to regulate the appointment of the original diploma. "There is no authority for them to regulate me to show my original diploma," said Jokowi.

The Public Has The Right To Know Regulated In The Information Disclosure Law

Meanwhile, the former Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Human Rights (Menkopolhukam), Mahfud MD, who had joined the Jokowi government cabinet, also commented on the diploma and academic degree held by the former mayor of Solo. Mahfud said that the UGM should not need to be involved in the diploma.

UGM should not have to be involved in this (Jokowi's official diploma). Because it was UGM that issued the diploma, not the one who faked the diploma. UGM just needs to direct loh.. "There is a Law on Public Information Disclosure, where it is said that the public has the full right to know the documents and ask that the documents be disclosed to the public in a transparent manner. If they do not open, there is a court called the Information Commission that can judge and its decisions are binding," he explained.

"In the past, the first list was at the Solo KPU (during the run for the Solo Mayor Election), at that time his name was still Drs Joko Widodo. After becoming president, there was also a diploma again as Joko Widodo's Engineer. All of that will be opened to the public what actually happened," continued Mahfud.

Ijazah Jokowi Asli Atau Fake?

The issue of the authenticity of his diploma and academic degree bagged by Jokowi in 2022, at that time he was still the Head of State. Most recently, a former lecturer from Mataram University, Rismon Hasiholan Sianipar, also doubted the authenticity of Jokowi's diploma and thesis based on the sheets of ratification and thesis covers using a new romance font time. Sigit also answered Rismon's accusation that he doubted the validity of Jokowi's thesis and diploma documents because of the use of new romance font time. He said that that that year students were already using the font or letters that were almost similar to it, especially to print covers and sheets of ratification at printing stations.

Even around the UGM campus, there are printing stations such as Prima and Sanur (it's closed) which provide thesis cover print services. "The fact that there is a printing machine in Sanur and Prima should also be known because the person concerned is also studying at UGM," he said.

Recently, UGM again made a clarification after receiving an audience with the TPUA crowd who asked for an explanation of Joko Widodo's diploma. The father of the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Gibran Rakabuming, was confirmed to have an alumnus of the Faculty of Forestry at Gadjah Mada University.

The campus also mentioned Jokowi's student identification number that year. "The person concerned has carried out the entire study process which began in 1980 with student number 80/34416/KT/1681 and graduated on November 5, 1985," said University Secretary Andi Sandi Antonius Tabusassa Tonralipu quoted from the official UGM website, Wednesday, April 16, 2025.

Andi said, UGM as a public institution that implements a higher education system in Indonesia is bound by laws and regulations related to the protection of personal data and openness of public information.

"Therefore, UGM is only willing to show public data while personal data will only be provided if asked officially by law enforcement officials," he said.

UGM explained that the possibility of writing a Doctorandus degree in documents could be caused by administrative errors or data filling. However, what is legal and correct, according to educational background at the Faculty of Forestry, the title that deserves to be embedded is the Engineer.

This title is typically used in Indonesia before the change to the undergraduate degree system (S1, S2, S3) as adopted from the international higher education system. Thus, the Engineer's degree is not a postgraduate degree or doctoral degree, but a bachelor's degree obtained through formal education for 4-5 years.

The 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia emphasized that he would show real proof of his diploma when asked by the District Court. Moreover, now Jokowi intends to take legal action against the perpetrators who often slander him about the authenticity of his diploma.

Mahfud MD revealed that Joko Widodo once made a statement that he would cancel all decisions made during his tenure as president, even if his diploma was proven to be fake. Precisely from his field as a law graduate, this decision was canceled and considered wrong.

"Even more crazy, he said, if it was proven that Jokowi's diploma was fake, the entire decision while he was president was canceled was wrong. If it's not in constitutional law, that's not the case. Therefore, the constitutional law understands it's not like that," he said.

"For example, for example, Pak Jokowi's diploma was proven invalid or fake, then contracts with abroad or with what companies were canceled, no. We can be prosecuted internationally," continued Mahfud.
