Transactions Of The Indonesian Carbon Exchange Capai 690,675 TCO2e In The First Quarter Of 2025
JAKARTA PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX) recorded that during the first quarter of 2025, there were a total of 690,675 tons of equivalent CO2 or tCO2e carbon units traded through IDXCarbon.
IDX Corporate Secretary Kautsar Primadi Nurahmad explained that this amount exceeds the total volume of carbon trading transactions throughout 2024 and throughout 2023, and makes IDX Carbon one of the largest carbon exchanges in the region.
As for 2024, IDX Carbon posted a transaction of 413,764 tCO2e, while since the operation of IDX Carbon on September 26, 2023 until the end of December 2023, it posted a transaction of 494,254 tCO2e.
Kautsar said that currently, there are 7 technology-based emission reduction projects that have been traded, with an available number to be traded as much as 2,203,119 tCO2e.
In addition, there was also an increase in IDX Carbon Service Users by 22 percent to 111 users during the first quarter of 2025.
"This status generally provides optimism on the prospects for carbon trading in Indonesia," he said in his statement, Thursday, April 17.
In addition, in the first quarter of 2025 IDX Carbon has recorded achievements in various aspects where on January 20, 2025, the Ministry of Environment/Environmental Control Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (KLH/BPLH), the Financial Services Authority (OJK), and PT Bursa Efek Indonesia (IDX) inaugurated the International Trade of the Indonesian Carbon Unit through IDX Carbon at the Main Hall IDI.
"This inauguration is one of the milestones for organizing carbon trading in Indonesia, which is expected to be the initial gateway for the creation of collaboration for the implementation of foreign carbon trading," he said.
During the launch, there were 5 emission reduction projects originating from the energy sector and obtained authorization for international trade, namely the Operation of the New Natural Gas Fuel Plant PLTGU Priok Block 4, Conversion from Single Cycle Generation to Combined Cycle (Add On) PLTGU Grati Block 2.

Then, the Operation of the Mount Wugul Minihydro Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTM), the Operation of the New Natural Gas Power Plant PLTGU PJB Muara Karang Block 3, and the Conversion from the Single Cycle Plant to the Combined Cycle Block 2 PLN NP UP Muara Tawar.
Kautsar conveyed that IDX Carbon, in coordination with the OJK and related Ministries or Institutions, continues to develop a carbon trading ecosystem in Indonesia to make Indonesia a carbon trading center in Asia and in the world.
"IDX Carbon will also continue to strive to encourage carbon market liquidity in terms of demand and supply, both from domestic and international markets and in accordance with government policies and regulations," he said.
According to him, by collaborating with various stakeholders, carbon trade in Indonesia will continue to grow and contribute significantly to supporting the achievement of national emission reduction targets.
