Dugem Prisoners And Drug Party At Pekanbaru Detention Center, Commission XIII Of The House Of Representatives Asks Officers To Be Fired If Involved
JAKARTA - Member of Commission XIII DPR Mafirion, condemned the actions of dozens of inmates who held a drinking and drug party at the Pekanbaru Class I Detention Center (Rutan). He asked the officers at the prison to be fired if they were proven involved in a drug party.
Mafirion emphasized that the immoral act indicates a weak supervision and element of omission in the detention center.
"I ask that a thorough examination be carried out without exception. The head of the detention center and the officers on guard must be examined to find out if there is an element of neglect in this incident," said Mafirion, Thursday, April 17.
"If proven to be involved, officers must be fired. Prisoners involved in the action must also be dealt with firmly. Weak law enforcement has the potential to cause similar incidents to repeat themselves," he continued.
Mafirion also mentioned that the Head of the Regional Office (Kakanwil) of the Directorate General of Corrections (Dirjen PAS) Riau had confirmed the incident. "I ask that Kakanwil immediately take action and release the officials involved," he said.
It is known that social media was shocked by the circulation of videos of prisoners playing music while dancing. In the video, several bottles of drinks are scattered between them. There is also a used bottle equipped with a white straw, suspected of being a methamphetamine suction device or bong.
Some inmates also look relaxed smoking e-cigarettes. While in another corner, other inmates seemed engrossed in calling using a cell phone.
According to Mafirion, this incident shows that detention centers are still a hotbed of drugs and access to liquor is very easy. In fact, drugs and liquor are strictly prohibited from entering detention centers and correctional institutions.
"The use of mobile phones must also be investigated to reveal the possibility of individuals deliberately entering and passing them so that prisoners can use them freely," said Mafirion.

He emphasized that prisons and remand centers in Indonesia have not yet been free from drug trafficking. In fact, several times it was revealed that there were drug control syndicates from prisons.
The most shocking case was the disclosure of a drug factory in the Class II A Cipinang Narcotics Prison founded by Freddy Budiman. The factory importers thousands of ecstasy pills and is capable of producing two kilograms of crystal methamphetamine every time it is produced.
According to Mafirion, the disclosure of cases of drug use and alcohol by prisoners in detention centers is an iceberg phenomenon. He considered that this incident should be a momentum for the Director General of PAS to conduct a thorough evaluation.
"Not only in the detention center, but also in detention centers and other prisons, in order to prevent similar cases from recurring," he concluded.
