KPK Reminds That The Selection Process Of Supreme Court Justices Must Run Transparently
JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) reminded that the selection of Supreme Court justices by the Judicial Commission (KY) must try transparently. The quality of the future of the judiciary depends on the current process.
"KPK encourages the selection process to run in transparency and integrity so that a quality Supreme Court judge is found for the future of the judiciary," said KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardhika to reporters quoted on Thursday, April 17.
Meanwhile, regarding the registration of one of the former deputy chairmen, Nurul Ghufron, Tessa did not want to talk further. He only mentions that whoever registers and is elected is certainly the best figure.
"KPK prays for anyone who registers but of course it is the best for Indonesia," said a spokesman with an investigator background.
Meanwhile, Nurul Ghufron is one of the registrants who passed the administrative selection of candidates for Supreme Court justices in 2025. In total there are 161 candidates for Supreme Court justices and 18 candidates for Ad Hoc judges entering the next stage.
Even so, Nurul Ghufron was involved in an ethical case at the anti-corruption commission. He was proven to have committed moderate violations because he helped the transfer process of a state civil servant (ASN) at the Ministry of Agriculture (Kementan).
When this ethical case rolled out, Ghufron fought a number of resistances against the KPK Supervisory Board for the 2019-2024 period. One of them, by suing members of the supervisory board to the State Administrative High Court (PTUN) to report them to the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Police.
As previously reported, KY Spokesperson Mukti Fajar said the ongoing selection was looking for five Supreme Court justices of the Criminal Chamber, three Supreme Court justices of the Civil Chamber, two Supreme Court justices of the Chamber of Religion, one Supreme Court judge of the Military Chamber, one Supreme Court justice of the State Chamber of Administration (TUN), five Supreme Court justices of the special TUN for taxes, and three Supreme Court justices ad hoc HAM in the Supreme Court.
This registration, continued Mukti, was closed on Thursday, April 10 after being extended from 27 March. In total there were 183 applicants for Supreme Court justices and 24 applicants for ad hoc HAM judges at the Supreme Court for confirmation.
