Reggae Musician Influential, Max Romeo Dies At The Age Of 80

JAKARTA - Behind its simple and easy to enjoy rhythm, reggae music carries many stories and struggles. And Max Romeo is one of the world's reggae figures who has covered his steps.

Max Romeo reportedly died on April 11 yesterday at Paroki Saint Andrew, Jamaica. He was reported to have had heart problems and complications of other diseases, until he breathed his last at the age of 80.

News of the legend's death was reported through his social media accounts on April 13.

"It is with deep sorrow, we announce the death of our beloved Max. We are very grateful for the expression of love and respect, and respectfully we ask for privacy for now. Legend never dies," wrote the account @maxromeoofficial.

This Jamaican musician has made changes through his work and activism during his life. One of his criticisms left a deep trail, namely War Ina Babylon, which was a response to a divided situation in his country of birth in the 1970s.

This figure is also known to be eccentric and controversial. His work entitled Wet Dream, which was released in 1969, is considered a song that is too vulgar to be banned in several countries.

However, the strength of the musician's expression made the work develop even bigger. The song stole the attention and topped the music chart.

Since then his name has begun to be aligned with Bob Marley. Both have the power to change the situation, voice inequality and share sincere love through the melody and rhythm of the growing reggae.
