Garuda Indonesia Transports 2.6 Million Passengers In The First Quarter Of 2025, Highest In The Last Three Years

JAKARTA - The national airline Garuda Indonesia recorded a positive operational performance in the first quarter of 2025.

During the January to March period, Garuda Indonesia has served 2.6 million passengers.

This figure is the highest achievement in the last three years.

President Director of Garuda Indonesia, Military Commander Tsani said the figure grew by 48 percent from the first quarter of 2023, which was 1.8 million passengers.

This number also grew 10 percent from the same period in the first quarter of 2024, which recorded 2.4 million passengers.

The military commander said that the positive performance was reflected through the average passenger occupancy rate or seat load factor in the first quarter of 2025 which was projected to reach 80.51 percent.

This figure increased significantly from 2023 to 72.30 percent, and in 2024 it was 73.89 percent.

Meanwhile, cargo transportation also recorded positive growth. In the first quarter of 2025, Garuda Indonesia recorded a total cargo transportation of 34,715.57 tons, growing by 39 percent compared to the same period in 2023 of 25,053.35 tons.

The military said that this figure also grew by 3 percent compared to the same period in 2024 of 33,735 tons.

"This achievement is the initial result of efforts to improve Garuda Indonesia's performance to strengthen public confidence in airline services," he said in an official statement, Friday, April 11.

Furthermore, the Military Commander said, the increasing demand for passenger transportation at the beginning of the year, which is generally a low season period in the aviation industry.

"In addition, it also provides its own optimism for Garuda Indonesia, which is carrying out a series of strategic transformation steps to ensure the sustainability of the company," he said.

Efforts to improve Garuda Indonesia's performance are carried out through increasing operational reliability, optimizing sustainable production capacity, adjusting routes that are in line with market needs and demand, as well as strengthening synergies with the tourism ecosystem and national transportation.

The results of these performance improvements are projected to strengthen financial performance, including in improving cash flow positions.

This also increases the company's liquidity capabilities, among others, to fulfill its commitment to the PKPU peace agreement.

Taking advantage of this positive momentum, Garuda Indonesia will continue to strengthen its operational and organizational basis.

This is done through a sustainable transformation program that includes budget refocusing, fleet optimization, as well as strengthening level of service and airline advantages that already have high safety and comfort standards.

In the organizational aspect, improvements made include optimizing performance-based pilot training, improving employee allowance systems, and optimizing land transportation systems for cabin crews, all of which are carried out in accordance with government regulations and relevant industrial practices.
