Prabowo: RI's Historical Association 'Turkey' Has Happened Since The Ottoman Era
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto stated that the historical and emotional closeness between Indonesia and Turkey has existed since the Ottoman Empire era.
"For us, Turkey is the successor to the civilization of the Ottoman Empire. In our history, when our sultanate was attacked by Western imperialists, the Ottoman Empire sent its aid, weapons, soldiers, and advisers," President Prabowo said in a speech to the Turkish National Assembly on Thursday, April 10.
President Prabowo also revealed that the memory of Ottoman aid is still alive in the midst of Indonesian society, especially in areas that have historically been close, such as Aceh, Sumatra, and Deli Serdang.
"Until today, people still remember. Their grandparents have been assisted and trained by the Ottoman Empire. That is what strengthens relations between Indonesia and Turkey," he said.
Presiden Prabowo juga menyebut dirinya mungkin adalah politikus Indonesia yang paling sering berkunjung ke Turki, bahkan sebelum menjabat sebagai Presiden.
