Regularly Drinking Jus Jeruk Helps Lower High Blood Pressure

JAKARTA - Orange is one of the fruits that has many benefits for the health of the body. This fruit can also be made into various types of food and drinks, one of which is orange juice.

Regular consumption of orange juice can help alleviate the health problems of hypertension or high blood pressure. This was revealed through research in the publication of the journal Europan Journal of Nutrition, quoted from Verywell Mind, on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

In the study, it was found that orange juice can help lower blood pressure. Drinking orange juice can lower blood pressure because of the hesperiidin content in it.

Hesperidin in orange juice can reduce systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure after sustainable consumption. Orange juice can also reduce hypertension due to the flavonoid and petin content in it.

Flavonoid is a plant chemical that acts as an antioxidants in the body. This can protect the effect of damage from free radicals, including those related to blood pressure.

"What is very interesting about this research is to help identify that hesperiidin, the strong plant compound found especially in oranges, contributes mainly to blood pressure," said dietistaturistaturation and dietistrap Rampersaud, RDN.

Orange juice naturally contains 690 milligrams per liter (mg/L) hesperidin. The researchers found that, over 12 weeks, 100 percent orange juice and 18000 mg/L enriched hesperidin effectively lowers the sistolic blood pressure in people who experience pre-hypertension or stage-1 hypertension.

Rampersaud also said people who drink orange juice tend to make healthier diet choices in general. Therefore, orange juice is recommended to be one of the daily menus for those of you who are on a diet program.

"Research shows that people who regularly drink orange juice tend to have better nutritional intake and overall diet quality than those who don't," he said.

"This further shows a positive role that orange juice can play in a healthy diet," concluded Rampersaud.
