Prabowo Warmly Welcomed Erdogan In Turkey, Palace: Show Personal Closeness

JAKARTA - Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media of the Presidential Secretariat Yusuf Permana said that the moment of welcoming Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan when he arrived at Turkish Airport showed a personal closeness between the two.

When he arrived at Esenboga International Airport, Ankara, Turkey, Wednesday, April 9 at around 18.58 local time, President Prabowo was greeted directly by President Erdogan who had waited not far from the plane's stairs.

"Earlier we witnessed him shaking hands warmly, then hugging, that moment also showed the personal closeness between the two leaders, Mr. President Prabowo and Mr. President Erdogan," Yusuf said while giving a media statement in Ankara, Turkey, quoted by ANTARA Wednesday night local time.

Yusuf said that after shaking hands and hugging warmly, the two leaders talked to each other while passing the Turkish Honorary Prison Troops.

When the Honorary Jajar Troops welcomed Prabowo's arrival in Turkey, the Indonesian national anthem Merdeka Day and the Turkish national anthem Istiklal Marsi were sung which added to the excitement of the welcoming ceremony.

It was also seen that two children wrapped in traditional Turkish clothing provided bouquets of flowers to add to the warmth of President Prabowo and his entourage.

Erdogan and Prabowo then walked to the waiting room at the airport. The two talked for some time before finally separating.

President Prabowo, along with a group from Jakarta, namely Minister of Foreign Affairs Sugiono and Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, accompanied by Indonesian Ambassador to Turkey Achmad Rizal Purnama, continued their journey to a five-star hotel in downtown Ankara where the President spent the night.

President Prabowo's visit to Turkey was a return visit after Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Indonesia in February 2025.

Turkey is the second country President Prabowo's goal in a series of his overseas trips to Middle Eastern countries.

From Turkey, the President is scheduled to continue his journey to Egypt, Qatar, and finally Jordan.
