DKI Social Assistance Policy Tightened, Immigrants Must Stay 10 Years

JAKARTA - Secretary of Commission E of the DKI Jakarta DPRD Justin Adrian supports the policy of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government which requires immigrants to stay in Jakarta for at least 10 years to get social assistance (bansos).

According to Justin, although the DKI Jakarta Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBD) is the highest in Indonesia, the budget burden for implementing development programs and community welfare is also quite large.

"The current burden of the DKI Jakarta APBD is quite large, even though there are still many homework in development to improve the quality of life of the people of Jakarta," Justin told reporters, Tuesday, April 8.

In addition, there are still many low-income people (MBR) in Jakarta who have not been accommodated as recipients of social assistance due to budget constraints and quotas.

This, according to Justin, is due to uncontrolled urbanization. Where, many people move to Jakarta solely to try their luck. Meanwhile, if welfare does not improve, they end up relying on government social assistance.

"This not only burdens the regional budget, but also has an impact on the overall capacity of Jakarta, both in terms of education, health, housing, public spaces, and employment," said Justin.

"Other social effects can also occur, such as increasing dense settlements, economic inequality, and increasingly fierce labor competition," he added.

Previously, the Head of the Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Service (Dukcapil) Budi Awaluddin emphasized that newcomers could not simply receive social assistance. They have to stay and have been registered for 10 years to get the program.

"In the future, Jakarta will have a policy regulation of at least 10 years to stay and be registered in the Jakarta area before registering as a candidate for receiving social assistance," Budi told reporters, Friday, March 4.

Budi said this policy was not to prohibit foreign immigrants. "However, (the aim is to make, red) fair and measurable for each resident to remain served according to the applicable rules," he said.

"Because we have an obligation to protect the city of Jakarta and its citizens so that they remain safe and comfortable for the residents," continued Budi.

According to him, newcomers should have a guarantee of housing to permanent expertise and work. Do not let them make no contribution to Jakarta to global cities.

"Of course, if the migrants have skills and skills, their contribution will be useful in reaching Jakarta towards the city of Global and realizing Indonesia's gold 2045," he concluded.
