BMKG Forecasts The Majority Of Natural Areas For Light- Moderate Rain Today

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning in the form of potential light, moderate, to heavy rain which could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major cities in Indonesia today.

Forecast Yohanes explained, in general, the convergence area extends from the west coast of Aceh, the Malacca Strait, from the west coast of North Sumatra to Lampung, from the South China Sea to West Kalimantan, the west coast of West Sumatra to Lampung, Natuna Sea, Halmahera Sea to North Sulawesi, Maluku to Southwest Papua.

This condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth along areas that are passed by convergence or convergence.

Therefore, his party predicts that several major cities will have the potential to experience moderate to heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds, including Medan, Jambi, Pangkal Pinang, Tanjung Selor, Samarinda, Palangkaraya, Banjarmasin, Mamuju, Kendari, Nabire, Merauke, and Jayawijaya.

Meanwhile, several other big cities will experience light to moderate rain, namely Banda Aceh, Padang, Pekanbaru, Tanjung Pinang, Bengkulu, Palembang, Bandar Lampung, Serang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Pontianak, Gorontalo, Palu, Makassar, Jayapura, Manokwari, Sorong, Ternate, and Ambon.

"Several other big cities are predicted to experience only cloudy conditions today, including Mataram, Denpasar, Kupang, and Manado," he explained, quoted from the BMKG official website in Jakarta, Antara, Saturday, April 5.

For the forecast for sea waves in the territory of Indonesia, BMKG predicts that generally it is in the range of 0.5 to 2.5 meters, while high waves up to 4 meters have the potential to occur around the waters of the Indian Ocean west of Banten.

He also appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding on the coasts of Lampung and Central Maluku.
