Indonesia's Assistance For Myanmar Earthquake Victims Officially Handed Over

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) announced that Indonesia had handed over humanitarian aid to the people of Myanmar who were affected by the earthquake on March 28 in Naypyitaw, Myanmar, Thursday (3/4).

According to a press release from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs received in Jakarta, Friday, the humanitarian aid was received by the Deputy Minister of Welfare and Renovating Assistance Soe Kyi.

The humanitarian assistance was in the form of logistical assistance weighing 143 tons with a value of Rp22.6 billion (1.3 million US dollars) consisting of foodstuffs, medicines, medical equipment and evacuation support equipment.

Indonesia also sent a joint team consisting of the National Disaster Control Agency (BNPB), the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS), the Emergency Medical Team from the Ministry of Health and the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The leadership of the Indonesian Aid Team said that the humanitarian assistance was a form of humanitarian solidarity between the Indonesian people to the people of Myanmar and a form of Indonesia's commitment to strengthen disaster management cooperation between ASEAN countries.

A team from Indonesia joined a number of countries that also sent a Urban Search and Rescue Team (USAR) to help carry out first aid and search for earthquake victims in Myanmar.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that upon the arrival of the Indonesian Assistance Team in Naypyitaw, they immediately visited the earthquake-affected locations around the Myanmar capital and headed to the operation center of the Indonesian Joint Team.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also mentioned that the Indonesian team had evacuated five Indonesian citizens affected by the earthquake from Mandalay to Yangon, of which four Indonesian citizens were vulnerable groups.

To date, it is known that around 2,886 people died, 4,636 were injured and 351 people were declared missing due to an earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale that hit Myanmar.
