JAKARTA - Deputy Regent of Jayapura, Papua Province Haris R. Yocku went directly to the field to mediate between groups involved in clashes in Kampung Harapan, East Sentani District.

Deputy Regent of Jayapura Haris R. Yocku in Sentani, Wednesday, said that this step was taken to defuse tensions and find peaceful solutions for both parties involved in the dispute.

"We received information that there had been clashes between residents in Kampung Harapan, precisely at the GKI Church Building, Filadelfia Kampung Harapan and this became the special attention of the local government," he said.

According to Haris, the settlement of events like this must involve local governments, traditional leaders and religious leaders, police and TNI officers, because the task of maintaining security and peace is a shared responsibility.

"I met the two camps in separate places in Harapan Village, to find out the root of the problem, then we gave the best solution, namely mediation to make peace," he said.

He explained that his party appealed to all parties to exercise restraint and not to be easily provoked by emotions, conflict resolution must be carried out with a cool head and brotherhood.

"The root of the problem must be found and resolved completely so that similar incidents do not happen again, the government also cooperates with traditional leaders and religious leaders in formulating a fair solution for all parties," he said again.

He added the chronology of the incident, namely on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, there was a group of outsiders who entered the GKI Church Building, Filadelfia Kampung Harapan, then attacked people who were performing the symord of Holy marriage.

"This attack incident is the aftermath of the beating of a young man, who is suspected of stealing a motorized vehicle at the church on Monday, March 31, 2025 at night during the month's key service," he said again.
