Dozens Of Active Grenades Found By Mount Lewotobi Refugees

East Flores Resort Police said 16 active grenades were found by survivors of the Mount Lewotobi Laki eruption in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

"It is still active so that it is temporarily secured in a bunker," said Head of Subsidy for PIDM SiHumas East Flores Police, Iptu Anwar Sanusi, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, 2Airpil.

Found 16 grenades and hundreds of ammunition by survivors of the eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki while digging a septic tank hole on Tuesday (1/4).

Anwar said a number of the grenades were still being secured in the bunker because they were still waiting for the arrival of the Jibom Detreading Team Gegana Brimob Polda NTT from Kupang.

A number of grenades and 393 bullets were found in temporary shelter locations for male Mount Lewotobi eruption refugees built by the central government in Konga Village, TiteTENa District, East Flores Regency.

Meanwhile, East Flores Police Chief AKBP Adhitya Oktorio Putra said the grenade that was still active was temporarily moved to be secured at an empty location in the garden by making a hole/bunker that was far from settlements.

The type of active grenade found is type 97 with a length of 3.78 inches or 9.6 cm weighing 65 grams or 2.3 ounces.

The police chief said that based on its shape, it is possible that the grenade is a relic of World War II.
