Ukraine Holds First Discussion On Mineral Deal With US
JAKARTA - Ukraine says it has carried out its first consultation with the United States regarding the contents of a new mineral agreement between the two countries proposed by Washington.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said Kyiv accepted the contents of the expanded US deal on mineral resources on March 28.
"I also confirm to you that we have started the appropriate consultation with the Americans regarding the contents of the agreement," Sybiha said as quoted by ANTARA from Anadolu, Tuesday, April 2.
Sybiha said the consultation session had been held, but did not provide details on the talks.
"The Ukrainian side is determined to finalize documents that will meet national interests with the United States and Ukraine," he said.
"We will work with our American counterparts to reach a mutually acceptable agreement to sign," he added.
On March 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Kyiv resami had accepted a new draft US agreement on an important mineral deal.
The initial draft was supposed to have been signed when Zelenskyy visited the White House on February 28, but the meeting failed after a feud.
US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance collided with the Ukrainian leader and accused him of not thanking America for years of support.
