French Presidential Candidate Marine Le Pen Involved In Corruption Prohibited From Prospecting, Paying A Fine Of IDR 1.7 Billion
French presidential candidate Marine Le Pen has been banned from running for political official for five years after being found guilty in a corruption case.
A Paris court sentenced a 56-year-old far-right French far-right leader to four years in prison, who is at the forefront of the 2027 presidential election.
The prison sentence is half suspended, while two years can be served under surveillance wearing a ankle bracelet. Reported by Anadolu, Marine Le Pen was also fined 100 thousand euros (Rp1.7 billion).
The National Rally Le Pen Party was also ordered to pay a fine of 2 million euros (Rp 35.8 billion).
His lawyer, Rodolphe Bosselut, said they would file an appeal.
"It's really, really extraordinary. There is a form of criminalization of the right to self-defense, which I personally think is very embarrassing," he added.
