Arrested During Iftar, Turkish Student In US Threatened With Deportation

JAKARTA - A doctoral student, Rumeysa Ozturk (30), from Turkey was arrested suddenly in Somerville, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, March 25. Ozturk is currently undergoing a study in the United States reportedly kidnapped while breaking his fast.

He studied at one of the leading US universities. He faces the threat of deportation after being considered pro to Palestine.

"Ozturk was arrested for allegedly being involved in activities supporting Hamas," said US Department of Homeland Security spokesman bilang McLaughlin, quoted on Sunday, March 30.

The student was reportedly detained by US Immigration. A source from the US Ministry of Homeland Security revealed that the investigation began after online activities indicated potential support for Hamas.

However, until now, there is no concrete evidence that can prove these allegations. Some have requested that the US government ensure a fair and transparent legal process for the student.
