Disaster Warning, These Are Four Regions In West Kalimantan Set By Emergency Response Status

Four of the seven districts/cities affected by flooding in West Kalimantan have established emergency alert status for floods, tornadoes and landslides.

"The four areas are Singkawang City, Bengkayang Regency, Sintang Regency, and Ketapang Regency. Meanwhile, Ketapang Regency and Kapuas Hulu have raised their status to an emergency response due to the widespread impact of disasters," said Head of the West Kalimantan Province BPBD Disaster Task Force, Daniel, as reported by ANTARA.

He revealed that until now the floods are still submerging a number of areas in seven districts, namely Landak, Sanggau, Kubu Raya, Ketapang, Melawi, Kapuas Hulu, and Sintang.

"Of the seven regencies, based on the latest reports, several areas in Kapuas Hulu and Sintang are still submerged in water to this day, although some are starting to recede," he said.

Daniel added that the number of residents affected by this flood reached 27,974 families or around 87,363 people. They are spread across 112 villages in 21 sub-districts.

Furthermore, Daniel explained that Ketapang Regency had established an Emergency Response status because of the wider flood coverage and the increasing number of affected residents. This status is valid until March 31, 2025. Meanwhile, Kapuas Hulu Regency has the same status from March 22 to April 5, 2025.

"With the determination of this emergency response status, we hope for more attention from the provincial and central governments in disaster management efforts, especially in Kubu Raya, Ketapang, and Kapuas Hulu Regencies," he said.

Based on the latest reports, the water level in several affected areas, especially in Kapuas Hulu and Sintang, reached 80 cm. This condition causes many residents to choose to stay in their homes and adapt by building stilt houses in their respective homes.

"We hope that this flood will recede soon so that people can carry out their prayers and celebrate Eid al-Fitr more calmly. However, we still urge the public to remain vigilant because the BMKG predicts that rainfall will continue until next April," said Daniel.
