ACL Alphonso Davies Injury, Agent: There's Pressure From Canada's National Team Staff To Keep Playing

JAKARTA - Agent Alphonso Davies criticized the Canadian National Team's staff's treatment of the Bayern Munich player after it was announced that he suffered a torn ACL (anterior crude league) against the United States in the Concacaf Nations League on Monday, March 24, 2025.

He said the Bayern Munich star was "suppressed" to play although not yet fully fit.

Davies started the match against the United States in the race for third place in the Concacaf UEFA Nations League before being replaced in the 12th minute.

Bayern Munich revealed on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, local time that Davies suffered an ACL tear in his right knee, which forced the player to undergo surgery and was not allowed to play for several months.

"I am very disappointed. Alphonso is not in 100 percent condition after the Mexican match (in the semifinals of the Concacaf Nations League) and it is planned that he will not play against the United States."

"On Saturday, March 22, 2025, the expectation was that he would not be on the cast list. As captain, I felt he was pressured to start by the coach."

"Alphonso is not the type of person who would say no at such times. He ended up playing and see what happened."

"In my opinion, Canada Soccer needs to do a better job of managing these players."

"Alphonso is slumped and is clearly very disappointed with this injury. Fortunately, he is in good hands with the world-class team at Bayern Munich who will take very well."

"He is expected to undergo surgery," Davies agent Nedal Huoseh said in a statement to OneSoccer.

Canada Soccer responded to Huoseh's comments by calling it untrue.

"We would like to express our full support for the captain of the Canadian National Team, Alphonso Davies, as he recovers from this unfavorable injury."

"Phonzie's strength and resilience (Alphonso Davies) is equivalent to his world-class talent. We all hope to fully support him during his recovery."

"Efficient Canadian medical trainers and staff Soccer are true professionals and always prioritize the safety and well-being of players. Everything that says otherwise is untrue," Canada Soccer spokesman Paulo Senra said in a statement to ESPN.

Canada beat the United States 2-1 to take third place in the Concacaf Nations League after losing in the semifinals to Mexico on Friday, March 21, 2025.

"Unfortunately, during the international break there is always a risk that players will be injured again. This time has a very bad impact on us," Bayern Munich Sports Director Max Eberl said in a statement.

In another blow to Bayern Munich's backline, Upamecano's Dayot defenders also had to be out for several weeks.

The club said the 26-year-old France international was diagnosed with joint leniency in his left knee.

"Phonzy will get all the support he needs on his way back. We will also monitor Upa carefully in the coming weeks and assume that she will recover soon. Our squad is strong and will make up for this absence," said Eberl.

Bayern Munich are now only three points ahead of Bayer Leverkusen who are in second place.

Vincent Kompany's team will host St Pauli in the Bundesliga on Saturday, March 29, 2025, before welcoming the leader of the Serie A standings, Inter Milan, for the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final on April 9, 2025, early morning WIB.
