Bayern Munich Threatens To Sue Canadian Federation In The Aftermath Of ACL Alphonso Davies' Injury
Bayern Munich said they were considering legal action against the Canadian Football Federation (Canada Soccer) following a serious knee injury suffered by Alphonso Davies in a negligible match.
"We are demanding a full investigation into the incident from Canada Soccer and expressly entitled to take legal action," Bayern Munich Chief Executive Jan-Christian Dreesen told Bild on Friday, March 28, 2025, local time.
Davies suffered a torn ACL (anterior cruciatum tournament) and another injury to his right knee as Canada won 2-1 over the United States in the race for third place in the Concaf Nations League tournament on Monday, March 24, 2025.
Davies has returned to Munich where the severity of his injury was determined on Wednesday, April 2, 2025. The club reports that the left-back will undergo surgery and be out for several months.

The club alleges that Canadian National Team officials did not provide proper care for the player.
"Sending injured players with damaged knees on intercontinental flights for 12 hours without a thorough medical examination, in our view, is a major negligence of the gross violation of medical care duties," said Dreesen.
Bayern Munich further said Davies should not have played at all in that match.
"The participation of Davies, who had had muscle problems before the match, in a game that was not sportingly important could not be understood from our point of view," said Dreesen.
Bayern Munich Sports Director Christoph Freund agreed with Dreesen's opinion by saying Davies' treatment after his injury was inappropriate.
Freund said Davies complained of exhaustion after Canada's previous matches, but kept playing.
"He is the captain, a young man who wants to help his team, but it's on the verge."
"The second problem is injury after 12 minutes. Then Phonzy (Alphonso) flew back on a 12-hour flight and we all assumed it wasn't a serious injury, but then we did this."
"It was careless. It was unprofessional and we need to talk and finish it. We are employers, we pay the players. So, we will investigate what happened," Freund said of the discovery that he had ACL torn in his right knee.
Davies is out for the rest of the season and will miss Bayern Muncnhen's final as they seek to final the Bundesliga title and reach the Champions League final at home.
Bayern Munich will face Inter Milan in the quarter-finals on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, early morning WIB, for the first leg.
FC Hollywood can claim a certain amount of compensation for Davies' salary from the FIFA insurance policy which includes the risk of injury to national team players, up to 7.5 million US dollars per case.
Apart from that, French defender Dayot Upamecano has also returned from UEFA Nations League's duties with a knee injury so coach Vincent Kompany has no other choice on the defense because South Korean player Kim Min-Jae has been injured.
Bayern Munich, who will host St Pauli at the Bundesliga on Saturday, March 29, 2025, have had two games without a league win.
Their advantage over Bayer Leverkusen, who are in second place, has been cut to three points.
Coach Vincent Kompany said his team had enough quality to fill the void and there would be no reason.
"It is unfortunate for Phonzy and Upamecano, who were unable to be with us during this season's important period."
"This season we have to make up for another vacancy. Hopefully it will make the team more compact. Reactions are important."
"There is no reason for me. I just want to win the next match and continue to grow," said Kompany.
