Menbud Fadli Zon Calls Russia's Indonesia Cooperation In The 'Marine Ships Must Be' Photo Exhibition
JAKARTA Minister of Culture of the Republic of Indonesia Fadli Zon was present at the 'Marine Ships Must Be' Photo Exhibition. This exhibition was held by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Indonesia with the Museum of the World Ocean and the Jakarta Maritime Museum in commemoration of 75 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Russia.
The exhibition opened Monday, March 24, 2025, and features 15 Russian photographers, Andrey Trony. The photos recorded the history of Indonesia-Russian maritime relations since the 17th century, including the period 16881740. Visitors can also see artifacts of maritime glory of the archipelago, from traditional ships to modern marine technology.
Minister of Culture Fadli Zon was present and gave a speech. He called this exhibition a strong symbol of cultural cooperation between the two countries. According to him, the theme Marine Ships Must Be describes the ship as more than a means of transportation the ship is a bridge of cultural exchange and history.
Laut unites Indonesia and Russia for a long time. From the Sriwijaya to Majapahit era, the sea has become the economic and cultural path of the archipelago," said Fadli Zon.

He also mentioned the visit of Tsareevich Nikolai Alexandrovich, a candidate for Russian Emperor, to Java Island in 1891. The documentation is stored in the National Archives.
The exhibition was attended by Russian Ambassador Sergei Tolchenov and representatives of other friendly countries, such as Malaysia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, to Armenia. There were also officials from the Ministry of Culture and the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government.
The 'Marine Ships Must Be' Photo Exhibition will last until April 16, 2025 and be open to the public. In addition to enjoying works of art, visitors are invited to understand the role of the sea in shaping friendship and diplomacy between the two nations.
