KPK Only Examines 13 Investigators Without Easing Witnesses, Hasto Alludes To Conflict Of Interest

JAKARTA - Secretary General of the PDI-P (PDIP), Hasto Kristiyanto, assessed that there was a conflict of interest in handling his case. This is because the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) did not examine witnesses who mitigated and instead took information from dozens of anti-corruption agency investigators.

The statement was made when reading the objection or exception note at the trial of the alleged bribery case of interim replacement (PAW) members of the DPR and the obstruction of the investigation.

"From the KPK itself, there are investigators and expert witnesses who have been made by the BAP. In total there are 13 KPK investigators and investigators who are witnesses to my case," said Hasto during a trial at the Jakarta Corruption Court, Friday, March 21.

It was said that one of the investigators being questioned was Rossa Purbo Bekti. The KPK investigator was used as a witness to incriminate him because he tends to be subjective and is not based on objective legal facts.

Thus, Hasto considers this matter as a form of serious violation of the principle of due process of law.

" Rossa Purbo Bekti's statement as a witness led more to the intent and purpose of the investigators to incriminate me. This is a conflict of interest that harms me as a defendant," said Hasto.

Hasto also said that the KPK must prioritize the principle of independence and neutrality as the basis for law enforcement, including the KPK Law number 19 of 2019.

Then, the Secretary General of the PDIP also quoted Article 17 of the KPK Law which stated that investigators must be independent and must not have a conflict of interest.

"This article clearly stipulates that investigators must be independent and must not have a conflict of interest. However, in this case, Rossa Purbo Bekti actually violates this principle," said Hasto.

The existence of this conflict of interest, said Hasto, is very joint, sir, regarding the construction of the indictment. In fact, injustice in the legal process

"This conflict of interest causes the indictment to contain many things that harm me. The legal facts of the KPK version are different from the facts of the previous trial that had been inkracht," said Hasto.
