Judika Doesn't Want To Be Made An Example Of A Singer Who Agrees To Direct License

Judika feels that she has been used as one of the examples of singers who support efforts to apply direct license for royalties for performing rights live events. But in reality, he never agreed with the implementation of the system.

Meanwhile, the assumption of Judika who supports direct license began with Ahmad Dhani's Instagram upload in January 2024. The Dewa 19 frontman displayed a screenshot when Judika informed that he would perform two songs belonging to Dewa and the organizer had paid Rp15 million in cash.

In the upload, Dhani referred to Judika as a singer who adhered to the Copyright Law. The reason is, at that time she implemented a direct license system which was considered in accordance with the law.

After joining the Indonesian Voice Vibration (VISION), Judika stated that what happened earlier last year and the public's assumption that covering it was a framing, where Dhani displayed a screenshot and created a narrative to support what he wanted.

"Like yesterday, it was like a frame, 'This Judika can (do direct license), why can't the others do it?'" Judika said, when VISI held a press conference at SCBD, South Jakarta recently.

Strictly speaking, Judika and VISI members feel that direct license is a wrong system if they are forced to implement it at this time. The reason is, there are no regulations from the state or government for its application. For what has been experienced, Judika stated that she did not want to be used as an example for songwriters who apply direct license.

"I don't want to be an example of that, because I also want everything to run with the applicable rules and mechanisms," he said.

Meanwhile, Judika explained that the money paid to Ahmad Dhani did not come from him, but the organizers who invited him to appear. In the screenshot in question, the singer of Decided Or Continues only forwards proof of payment that has been completed.

"The one who pays Garuda, the organizer, who is in the system, is actually like that. So, the organizer pays to the party who has the song, I just sing. Suddenly there is the news, the next day Mas Dhani immediately capture it and post it on IG," he said.

Instead of considering it a direct license, Judika sees the payment as an attempt to distance herself from conflict among musicians.

"So, it's actually not my way of agreeing to that, but my way of avoiding conflict, let alone friends," concluded Judika.
