Positive Growth Of The Tourism Sector, Here's The Strategy And Projection Of The Ministry Of Tourism Ahead Of Eid 2025
JAKARTA - The growth of the tourism sector in Indonesia has shown a positive trend in recent years, driven by the increasing number of foreign and domestic tourists.
Factors such as government policies, intensive promotion, and better infrastructure contributed to this increase. In early 2025, the tourism sector again recorded encouraging achievements.
Minister of Tourism Widiyanti Putri Wardhana revealed that various indicators in the national tourism sector experienced significant growth.
"We are proud to say that the number of tourist visits has increased by 32 percent compared to January 2024. In January 2025, foreign tourist visits were recorded at 1 million," Widiyanti said at a press conference in Jakarta, as quoted by ANTARA.
According to data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) obtained from the Directorate General of Immigration, this figure does not include foreign tourist visits in border areas. Meanwhile, data related to the movement of domestic tourists is still in the process of being processed by BPS.
With this positive growth trend, the Ministry of Tourism is optimistic that the target of foreign tourists will be achieved if this momentum continues to be maintained.
As a strategic step, the government seeks to increase domestic tourist travel by ensuring a more affordable travel rate. One of the policies implemented is the reduction in the price of economy class aircraft throughout Indonesia by 13 to 14 percent during the Lebaran 2025 period. This policy applies to tickets ordered from March 1, 2025, with a travel schedule between March 24 to April 7, 2025.
"We hope that the adjustment of aircraft ticket prices can help the community in planning homecoming or domestic travel at a more cost," added Widiyanti.

In addition, the Ministry of Tourism is working with various business actors to present attractive promotions to increase public interest in traveling during the Eid holidays.
The two campaigns that have been launched are #MudikYuk, which invites people to explore tourist destinations along the homecoming or hometown route, as well as #LebaranDiJakartaAja, which invites tourists from outside the city to enjoy various attractions in the capital city.
Various special events were also held in various regions during the Eid holiday period, such as the Aceh Ramadan Festival and the Rakik-Rakik Festival. These two events are included in the curation of the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) 2025, which aims to promote local tourism culture and attraction.
To ensure the readiness of tourist destinations to face a surge in visits, Widiyanti has issued an appeal letter to all local governments in Indonesia. In the letter, he invited local governments, associations, and tourism business actors to provide the best service and ensure the safety and comfort of tourists.
"We are also strengthening this step by issuing a Deputy for Destination Development and Infrastructure. This letter contains an appeal to conduct risk assessments and provide a resting place for transportation facilities drivers to maintain the smooth running of tourist travel," he explained.
Furthermore, he conveyed the projected movement of domestic tourists during Lebaran 2025 which is estimated to reach 146 million trips based on data from the Ministry of Transportation. With the average domestic tourist expenditure of IDR 2.57 million per trip, the potential for economic turnover generated during this period is projected to reach IDR 375.2 trillion.
Through various policies and initiatives implemented, the tourism sector is expected to continue to develop and provide great economic benefits for the people of Indonesia.
