Swiss Open 2025: Opponents Resign, Leo/Bagas Qualify For Round Of 16

JAKARTA Leo Rolly Carnando/Bagas Maulana's men's doubles qualified for the second round of the Swiss Open 2025 after their opponents David Eckerlin/Simon Krax withdrew due to injury.

Leo/Bagas, the runner-up couple at All England 2025, were ahead 16-11 in the first game when the German pair withdrew at St. Jakobshalle on Wednesday, March 19, 2025.

"Winning in a way we don't want. We don't know exactly what happened, but whatever it is, it will recover quickly for the German," Leo said in an official statement from Public Relations of PBSI.

Leo/Daniel are the second men's doubles to qualify for the round of 16. They followed in the footsteps of Muhammad Shohibul Fikri/Daniel Marthin who first qualified on Tuesday, March 18, 2025.

Next, Leo/Daniel will meet China Taipei's representative, Fang Chih Lee/Fang Jen Lee. The couple qualified for the second half after repatriating Scottish representative Christopher Grimley/Matthew Grimley.

Leo said that not playing the full game in the first half could save them the energy to face the next game.

"After this, we will use the time to practice to maintain conditions and performance," said the badminton player who was previously paired with Daniel Marthin.

Apart from Leo/Daniel, tickets were also secured by Putri Kusuma Wardani. The 22-year-old badminton player escaped after defeating Chiu Pin-Chian from China Taipei.

Putri, who became the fourth seed in the next tournament, will meet Anupama Upadhyaya. The Indian singles repatriated his compatriot Anmol Kharb.
