Three Type Cirebon Batik Motifs Officially Recognized As KIK
JAKARTA - Batik is one of Indonesia's cultural heritages that has been recognized by the world. Each region has a distinctive motif that reflects history, local wisdom, and deep philosophy.
One area rich in batik motifs is Cirebon, West Java. The typical Cirebon batik motifs have their own uniqueness which reflects the combination of local culture with external influences that enter the area.
The Regent of Cirebon, Imron, said that the three typical Cirebon batik motifs, namely Tebu Sekeret, Bintulu, and Janger China, had been officially recognized as Communal Intellectual Property (KIK) after obtaining an official certificate from the government.
"Today we from the Cirebon Regency Government have received the KIK certificate. This is proof that we have made maximum efforts to protect cultural products in Cirebon," said Imron in Cirebon, Wednesday.
He explained that out of a total of 70 proposals submitted by the local government, the three batik motifs managed to escape and were recognized as part of KIK.
Thus, he said, these batik motifs now receive legal protection as typical cultural products produced by the people of Cirebon Regency.
Imron also expressed his appreciation to various parties, especially the craftsmen and players of the batik industry in Cirebon, who have supported this cultural conservation effort.

"This is an achievement for the people of Cirebon. These works may have existed for a long time, and are currently receiving legal recognition and protection," he said.
According to him, the government is committed to continuing to protect people's cultural works, especially those with historical and economic value such as Cirebon batik.
