Playing On The Side Of The River, Two Toddlers In Aceh Besar Drown And Die

BANDA ACEH - A joint team from the National SAR Agency (Basarnas) evacuated the bodies of two toddlers drowning in a river in Gampong Sihom Lhok, Indrapuri District, Aceh Besar District.

Head of Banda Aceh Basarnas Ibnu Harris Al Hussain said the two male toddler victims were four years old and three years and six months old. The two victims were local residents.

"The two victims were found dead after a search was carried out on Tuesday (18/3) night. The two victims were found separately after a search for several hours," said Ibnu Harris Al Hussain, quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 19.

Previously, the two victims were Harsya (4) and Rayan (3.5) playing or traveling on Tuesday (18/3). However, until 20.00 WIB, the two toddlers did not return to their respective homes.

The family and the community are trying to find both of them. The family and the community found the victim's bicycle and sandals by the river. The two toddlers allegedly drowned in the river.

"We received reports of the two missing victims from members of the Indrapuri Police at 20.15 WIB. Furthermore, the Banda Aceh Search and Rescue Office dispatched a team to the location to look for victims," said Ibnu Harris Al Hussain.

The search for victims, divided into three teams. The first team combed around the location using a rubber boat. The second team dived in the location where the victim was thought to be. Also, the third team combed the riverbanks.

After a search was carried out, the victim named Harsya was found dead around the location where the bicycle and sandals were found. The victim was immediately evacuated to a house of likes.

"While the second victim named Rayan was found on Wednesday (19/3) at around 00.40. The victim was found in the vicinity of the location where the point was thought to have sunk. The victim was immediately evacuated to the funeral home," he said.

In addition to Basarnas personnel, the search for victims also involved officers from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Aceh Besar District, elements of the TNI and Polri, as well as the community.

"With the discovery of the two victims, the SAR operation was closed and the personnel involved in the search were returned to their respective units or agencies," said Ibnu Harris Al Hussain.
