Israel Sends Specialized Burns To North Macedonia After Deadly Nightclub Fire

JAKARTA - Israel's medical team was dispatched to North Macedonia to help local authorities, following a fire that killed about 59 people at a nightclub on Sunday morning.

The Sheba Medical Center delegation, announced yesterday, includes burn and orthopedic specialists, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, as they will provide "despendent medical assistance to local hospitals, which are struggling with heavy patient burdens."

Israel's nonresident envoy to North Macedonia, Simona Frankel, also joined the delegation.

The team will remain in the country as long as needed, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.

"The departing medical delegation will do its best to assist the local medical team in treating the injured and reducing the severe impact on the local health care system while handling the mass casualties," Frankel said in a statement.

As previously reported, a fire broke out at a nightclub in Kocani City, east of North Macedonia at around dawn, citing MIA's Sputnik-OANA.

The fire occurred when the DNK band concert was held at Club Pulse which was attended by 1,500 people. The fire is thought to have been caused by the use of fireworks during concerts.

In addition to the death toll, injuries as a result of the incident have been evacuated to a number of hospitals in the country.
