Japanese PM: US Needs To Be Involved In Peace In Ukraine
Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba stressed the importance of the United States' involvement in achieving peace in Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia for more than three years.
PM Ishiba also emphasized that Japan will never tolerate unilateral attempts to change the status quo with violence such as Russia's aggression against Ukraine, anywhere in the world.
"Currently, various diplomatic efforts by countries including Europe and the United States continue tirelessly to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ukraine. Japan welcomes this effort," he said in a message released by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted via Antara, Sunday, March 16.
PM Ishiba conveyed this stance through a written message delivered in a virtual summit organized by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and attended by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Saturday.
Ukraine recently expressed readiness to accept US proposals for a 30-day ceasefire with Russia.
President Donald Trump's US government also urged Moscow to sit down to negotiate to stop fighting.
