The Moment Of Syria Commemorating The Day Of Insurgency, The First Since The Collapse Of The Assad Regime

JAKARTA - Syrians commemorated the anniversary of the rebellion for the first time since the fall of the Assad regime.

The event commemorating the 14th uprising in Syria was held on Saturday 15 March through demonstrations in the capital Damascus and other cities in the country.

The demonstration in Umayyah Square, Damascus was also the first after years of Syrian oppression under Assad's leadership. The field was used as a gathering point for Assad supporters.

Meanwhile in Homs, Idlib and Hama, the anniversary of the rebellion was held through a demonstration that raised the call "Syria win!"

Qader Al-Sayed, 35, a demonstration participant at Idlib, said the main celebration of the anniversary of the uprising in Syria was centered in Damascus.

"This is a dream come true," he said, quoted from AFP, Sunday, March 16.

The civil war in Syria has been in lockdown for years. Starting from a peaceful demonstration that was attended by thousands of people protesting against the Assad government on March 15, 2011. The peaceful action led to chaos that spread into a air war due to the repressive actions of the authorities.

The event commemorates the anniversary of the uprising in Syria for the first time since the Assad government collapsed on December 8, 2024 by various rebel alliances led by Muslims.

Ahmed Al-Sharaa, leading Islamist group Hayat Tahrir Al-Sham who spearheaded the insurgency attack, has been appointed interim Syrian President.

On Thursday this week, Sharaa signed a constitutional declaration regulating the five-year transition period of Syrian rule under her leadership before the permanent constitution is enacted.
