Abdul Gani Kasuba Dies, KPK Will Determine Further Steps

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) will discuss the continuation of the case that ensnared Abdul Gani Kasuba. This step was taken after the former Governor of North Maluku died at the Chasan Boesoirie Hospital Ternate on Friday, March 14.

"Regarding the continuation of the case in question, investigators will coordinate with the public prosecutor to determine the next steps," said KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardhika when confirmed via text message, Saturday, March 15.

The KPK is known to be still investigating the alleged money laundering crime (TPPU) that ensnared Abdul Gani Kasuba. The summoning of witnesses was carried out several times in December 2024 and the confiscation of assets indicated to have come from fraudulent practices.

This ML investigation was carried out by the KPK after developing the bribery and gratuity case that ensnared Abdul Gani.

Meanwhile, in the bribery and gratification case, Abdul Gani Kasuba was sentenced to eight years in prison by the Ternate District Court (PN) in September 2024. He was also subject to additional sentences for paying compensation of Rp109,056 billion and US$ 90 thousand.

The trial of bribery and gratification cases also attracted public attention. This is because the code 'Medan Block' emerged which was linked to the son and son-in-law of the 7th President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi), Kahiyang Ayu-Bobby Nasution.

The code is suspected to be related to the mining block in the North Maluku region.
