Tongkang Collision Of A Resident's House In The Musi River, The Captain Of The Tugboat Allegedly Violated The Shipping Law

The police revealed the cause of a barge loaded with coal that hit a resident's house on the banks of the Musi River, Palembang, South Sumatra (Sumsel).

Head of Palembang Polrestabes Police Commissioner Harryo Sugihhartono said the police had visited the crime scene (TKP) and had also concluded that the party must be responsible for the losses suffered by victim Sudirman (43).

According to him, the accident occurred due to a defect in the process of maneuvering the barge owned by PT Bukit Prima Bahari. Then, the tugboat from the barge was deemed incompetent in analyzing the situation and current conditions of the Musi River.

"Nakhoda yang ada di tugboat ini tidak capable, tidak melihat situasi dan kondisi alam yang ada sehingga dengan perkiraannya yang kurang maksimal tersebut membuat kapal terbawa arus dan menabrak bangunan di sekitarnya," katanya di Palembang, Jumat 14 Maret, disitat Antara.

He said the case had been upgraded to the investigation stage and the captain of the tugboat was suspected of committing a criminal act of Article 302 of Law (UU) Number 17 of 2008 concerning Shipping.

Previously, a barge loaded with coal crashed into a resident's house on the banks of the Musi River or on Jalan Putri Dayang Rindu RT 9 RW 04, Keramasan Village, Kertapati Palembang District, Wednesday, March 12 at around 16.30 WIB.

At that time, one of the victims on behalf of Sudirman (43) saw a coal barge passing by and it was seen turning a direction. He then asked the witness Aprilia (20) to record the ship.

The end of the ship owned by PT Bukit Prima Bahari hit a boat belonging to Sudirman parked behind the kitchen of his house. The engine boat was damaged and then sank.

The barge continued to go and finally hit the kitchen of Sudirman's house until it was heavily damaged and the pole of the house swayed. In addition, the kitchen of Rismiana's house (40) was also heavily damaged.
