The Indonesian Navy Is Optimistic To Remove The KRI Nanggala-402 Carcass And Evacuate The Body Of The Crew

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Navy is optimistic that it can lift the wreck of the KRI Nanggala-402 submarine. The existence of this ship has been detected by the search team, namely at a depth of 838 meters in Bali waters. Later, the bodies of the KRI Nanggala-402 crew will be evacuated to Surabaya.

The Chief of Staff of the Indonesian Navy (KSAL) Admiral TNI Yudo Margono said that his party plans to lift the submarine part of the KRI Nanggala-402 submarine that sank from the seabed to carry out a thorough investigation.

Yudo explained that the thorough investigation aims to find the cause of the sinking of the KRI Nanggala. Through investigations, he hopes that in the future there will not be a repeat of a similar incident. Furthermore, he said if it was successfully appointed. The bodies of the crew will be evacuated in Surabaya.

"If it has been appointed, we will successfully evacuate to Surabaya. Like yesterday's explanation, I will tell you that when we enter the sub-section of the evacuation stage, we will go to Surabaya, or according to the family's request because there are 3 people in Banyuwangi as well," he said in a virtual press conference, Sunday, April 25th.

Furthermore, Yudo said that the KRI Nanggala-402 was found to be split into three parts. There is a part that is detached from the main body of the ship, then there is the back of the ship without a compressive body, then horizontal and vertical rudders.

"There are parts of KRI Nanggala. So there KRI Nanggala is divided into three parts," he said.

On the same occasion, TNI Commander Marshal Hadi Tjahjanto stated that the entire crew of the KRI Nanggala-402 ship had died. This is after the underwater imagery of KRI Rigel and the ROV of the MV Swift Rescue ship from Singapore, which were looking for the German-made submarine, found authentic evidence.

"KRI Rigel has carried out a more accurate scan at the location using multibeam sonar and magnetometer," said Hadi.

Not only that, Hadi said the MV Swift Rescue had also lowered its ROV to accurately strengthen the underwater image of the ship.

"Furthermore, the Indonesian government will coordinate with ISMERLO to seek the next step. This is necessary because to evacuate KRI Nanggala-402 of course requires international cooperation," he explained.

As is known, the German-made submarine is about to conduct a torpedo firing exercise, on Wednesday, April 21. However, the KRI Naggala-402 Ship was declared missing contact from Wednesday, April 21 to Sunday, April 25.

Based on his statement, the KRI Nanggala-402 is estimated to have disappeared in waters about 60 miles or about 95 kilometers from the north of Bali Island, at around 03.00 local time.
