Indosat Uses AI And Machine Learning To Face Increased Traffic During Eid
JAKARTA - Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison (Indosat or IOH) held an Expedition for the Andal Network to monitor network performance while increasing service capacity and coverage at various crowded points during the Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 2025 period.
This expedition involves two main routes, namely Jakarta 'Palembang Village' and Jakarta'Jogja'Malang. This effort was made to ensure the readiness of the network on strategic routes that became the focus of community travel during homecoming.
"So, we have strengthened the network, especially from coverage and capacity. So, our focus is on homecoming, homecoming destinations, and POI," said SVP-Head of Network Operations Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison, Raden Taufan Akbar on Thursday, March 13.
Meanwhile, Indosat projects that the highest daily national data traffic spike during Ramadan will reach 14.6 percent compared to the daily traffic average, with the peak ahead of Eid al-Fitr.
To anticipate this surge, in terms of network infrastructure readiness, Indosat increases network capacity through optimizing BTS (Base Transceiver Station), MBTS (Mobile Base Transceiver Station), and real-time traffic monitoring.
This optimization includes 632 crowded points (Point of Interest/POI), 68 strategic routes, 29 toll roads, 30 non-toll roads, and 9 railway lines. To support customer communication, network improvement is also carried out by increasing capacity in 9,600 BTS and 800 transport networks.
In addition, coverage is expanded through the addition of 1.500 new BTS and 53 Mobile BTS. Operating stability is also prepared with 1,100 Mobile Gensets and 3,000 standby technicians throughout Indonesia.

"So, as we know, PLN sometimes has lights off, and our technicians will immediately recover the network. So, indeed, when our users will walk to Java and Sumatra, God willing, it will be safe," he added.
Unlike last year, Taufan revealed that currently Indosat is utilizing AI and Machine Learning (ML) technology to predict the increase in traffic and where the increase is located.
"Meanwhile, from the application that will greatly increase, it's WhatsApp and Instagram. So, it's very high. So, we are also preparing to overcome this increase in traffic," he said.
